Attractions outside of the City Ban Na Ka

Located 16 km from the provincial capital, along Highway No. 2 (Route Udon Thani – Nong Khai), the village is well known for its local Pha Khit weaving looms.

Ban Thon

2 km from Ban Na Ka along the road to Amphoe Ban Dung, this village is as much known for his looms as for the cotton brocade it produces Satellite Handicraft Villages.
A village of potters is located Ban Kham O No22 on the road at Km 48. A Ban Pu Lu, residents replicate the old Ban Chiang pottery. A Ban Dong Yen, the villagers make baskets for the glutinous rice from the bamboo sticks.

Ban Tat

The people of Ban Tat are local crafters who weave the pha kasat products obtained from three types of yarn.

Udon Thani

Udon Thani is a province of North East of Thailand covering an area of 15,000 km2. Its capital is also named Udon Thani and is located 550km north-east of Bangkok

The province is best known for its architectural wonders whose most famous is the village of Ban Chiang where the first civilization of the Bronze age is supposed to have flourished there are more than 5000 years ago.

Udon Sunshine Fragrant Orchid Farm

Located about 2 km from the city along the road, after a left turn at Nong Sanrong, this farm has many different orchid hybrid species.

Pu-Ya Shrine (Sanctuary Pu-Ya)

Like the Chinese god of mercy and Godhead, Pu-Ya is revered by the localpeople. People facing hardships believe that praying here will bring solutions to their problems. Two Chinese flags bordering the lake add to the charm of the place. The sanctuary of Pu-Ya is located near the railroad in the east of the provincial capital.

Statue of Prince Prachak Silpakhom


This monument in the heart of the city commemorates the military governor who founded Udon Thani in 1894 by annexing it to the northern provinces.

Prachak Silpakhom Lake

Known locally as Nong Prachak, this vast expanse of water and was named after the discovery of Udon Thani, and decorated with colourful flowering plants, which helps make this a very pleasant place to visit.

The Reservoir Huai Luang

This scenic spot located 25 km from the provincial capital, along the road Udon Thani Nong Bua Lam Phu to Km 15, and then another 10 km further by a side street and is ideal for fishing, rafting and for boat trips.

Wat Pa Ban Tat

This monastery in the forest is located 16 km from the provincial capital. By Road No. 2 to Khon Kaen on 7 km, then turn right at the crossroads of Ban Dong Khaen for another 9 km.
The complex is situated on a hill in dense vegetation, and surrounded by rice plantations.
The monastery is ideal for meditation and contemplation. It is placed under the responsibility of a strict follower of Phra Achan Phurit-hatto Man, a Buddhist clergyman who is widely respected.

The History Park  Phu Phra Bat

This large tract of land lies at the foot of the mountain Phu Pan, and contains caves, rocks formations,  stone terraces and exudes an atmosphere as “coming from another world”, which presupposes the existence of an ancient civilization.

Phra Buddha Bat Bua Bok

This building, the main point is probably the historical park built in the 20′s, and has a footprint of the foot of Buddha (Phra Bat Buddha, Thai).
Not far from the shrine, there are several interesting caves and caverns. The caves are believed to have sheltered the men of the Stone Age, there are ancient wall paintings on the rocks of animals and geometric designs.

The Forest Park Yung Nam Na Som

Located about 100 km from the provincial capital, beyond the historical park Phra Bat Nam Phu in Amphoe Som, the park is well known for its 40 metres high waterfall Yung Thong, which falls in cascades over a steep cliff, amid lush surroundings, from the peaks of Phu Phu and Pan-Ya-U.

The National Museum of Ban Chiang

Located about 56 miles east of the provincial capital along Highway No. 22 (up to 50 km, then along Route 2025), this museum is open to the public every day.
Ancient crafts such as tools, utensils, pottery and jewelry, estimated to be between 4000 and 7000 years were unearthed in the immediate vicinity.
This traditional pottery , with fingerprints and decorations, is known to be amongst the oldest in the world.

Graves in the vicinity, found intact bordering Wat Po If Nai, show how these pots were buried with the dead.
Evidence of the existence of the art of bronze castings were discovered in the region, and in 1992, Ban Chiang was declared by UNESCO a site belonging to the World Heritage Site.
