New bus service announced between Thailand and Laos

It has recently been announced that The Transport Company are going to be introducing a bus service between Udon Thani in the north-east of Thailand and Vang Vieng in Laos.

The head of The Transport Company is Wuttichat Kanlayanamit and he recently made the announcement, he has also stated that it is not going to replace any of the current bus services that are being operated by the company.

Vang Vieng is a destination where there is stunning countryside and beautiful scenery. There are also many activities available in the town including rafting, kayaking and swimming in the river. For those who are feeling a bit more adventurous there are lots of caves in the surrounding area to explore.

Mr Wuttichat commented, “This bus service is going to improve tourism in both of the destinations and we also hope that it will improve trade. The fact that we are operating this new bus system is a statement of the friendship that we enjoy with our neighbouring country.”

An existing bus route by the company runs from Chang Mai in Thailand, to Luang Prabang in Laos, and is an overnight trip that last around 18 hours. The journey has several stops and includes a ferry crossing where visitors will have to board a boat and then switch to another bus. The bus stops at many destinations on the way and the ticket costs 1200 baht for the entire journey.

It is expected that another bridge between Thailand and Laos is going to be completed by 2013 and when this happens the company will start offering a first-class bus between the two destinations at a price of 1500 baht.
