The Russian tour operator, Lanta Tour Voyage, has recently gone out of business which has left thousands of people stranded around the planet. Over 300 people are stuck in Phuket, in Thailand. The Consul for Greater Phuket is Soopakij Cheravanont, who has commented that the tourist resorts in the Phuket have suffered significant costs because of the bankruptcy of the company.
Most of the tourists who are stuck in Thailand bought tours that lasted for over 10 days. The Russian consulate is currently negotiating with resorts in the area to offer discounted room rates to stranded Russian tourists. It has been said that the tourist police are involved with negotiations.
Holidaymakers will be reimbursed from their various insurance companies but the hotels are going to be the ones who really suffer. It is expected that most of the people on holiday in Thailand have enough money to get by until they are reimbursed by their insurers.
It is also expected that several people who were employed by the company are in Thailand and are not going to be paid for work that they have already conducted for the company. These people were earning around 800 baht per day, which meets the labour laws in the country.
